Football Turf
Football turf installation — 5-a-side & 7-a-side mini pitches
ChampCourts is India’s leading installer of FIFA-quality synthetic football turf for 5-a-side, 7-a-side, and 9-a-side mini pitches. We deliver turnkey commercial venues, school football grounds, society community fields, and corporate campus pitches — civil to surface to lighting in 45-90 days.
Synthetic football turf has revolutionised urban football in India: it survives 12-hour daily commercial use, drains during monsoon, plays year-round, and gives a near-natural ball roll. Our 50 mm FIFA-quality monofilament turf is the workhorse for commercial venues.

FAQ
What is the cost of football turf per square foot?
40 mm standard: Rs 90-130/sqft. 50 mm FIFA-quality: Rs 120-180/sqft. 60 mm FIFA-quality Pro: Rs 160-220/sqft. Hybrid systems: Rs 250-400/sqft.
What is the cost of a 5-a-side football venue?
Covered commercial: Rs 18-26 lakh turnkey. School open-air basic: Rs 12-18 lakh.
How long does synthetic turf last?
8-10 years with proper grooming, infill top-up, and inspection. Heavy commercial use (8+ hours/day) may shorten to 6-8 years.
What maintenance does football turf need?
Weekly grooming with drag-brush, monthly infill redistribution, quarterly infill top-up, annual professional deep-clean. AMC packages: Rs 30,000-90,000/year per court depending on size and city.
Does synthetic turf get hot in summer?
Yes — surface temp can reach 50-60 degree C in peak summer afternoons. Players typically use early morning and evening slots. Some commercial venues install misting systems for relief.
Can football turf be played in monsoon?
Yes — that’s the killer feature vs natural grass. Properly drained turf clears standing water within 5-10 minutes of rain stopping.
Goal systems for football turf
- 5-a-side aluminium goals (3 m x 2 m): Rs 35-65K per pair, removable for storage
- 7-a-side goals (5 m x 2 m): Rs 65-1.2L per pair, more robust frame
- 9-a-side / mini-pitch goals (6 m x 2 m): Rs 1-1.8L per pair
- 11-a-side full-size goals (7.32 m x 2.44 m): Rs 2.5-5L per pair, anchored
- Portable training goals: Rs 15-45K per pair, lightweight for academy drills
- Goal nets: Polypropylene 5 mm braided, FIFA-spec mesh; Rs 2.5-12K per set
Football turf lifecycle & replacement planning
Commercial operators should plan for full turf replacement at Year 8-10 with infill replenishment between:
- Year 0: Original installation
- Year 1-2: Light infill top-ups in goalmouths (Rs 8-15K)
- Year 3-5: Annual full top-up (Rs 12-25K)
- Year 5-6: Possible full infill replacement (Rs 1.2-2.5 lakh) if compacted/organic contamination
- Year 8-10: Full turf replacement (Rs 8-15 lakh depending on size); old turf often recyclable
- Year 10+: Some commercial operators choose to swap turf colour / branding while replacing
Pile heights & fibre technology
Modern football turf is engineered for specific play styles:
- 40 mm: School / society / training; standard monofilament; lighter use cases
- 50 mm: Commercial 5-a-side / 7-a-side; FIFA-quality monofilament with rubber + silica infill — the workhorse of Indian commercial venues
- 55-60 mm: Premium 7-a-side / 11-a-side; longer pile for natural ball-roll feel; FIFA Quality Pro
- 65+ mm: Stadium / large pitch; closest to natural grass feel; requires deeper infill maintenance
Fibre material: polyethylene (PE) monofilament is the modern standard — UV-stable, soft on skin, recyclable. Older polypropylene (PP) is being phased out for football use (harder feel, more abrasive on slide tackles).
Infill choice — silica vs rubber vs alternatives
- Silica sand only: Hardest, fastest ball; minimal shock absorption; used for hockey turf
- Silica + crumb rubber: Standard FIFA-quality; balanced shock absorption and ball roll; the default for football
- Silica + TPE (thermoplastic elastomer): Premium; UV-stable rubber alternative; no black-rubber leaching concern; ~25% premium
- Cork + silica: Eco alternative; cooler in summer; expensive (~50% premium); used in temperate climates
- EPDM granulate: Premium colour-coded infill; coloured to match pitch branding; ~35% premium
Drainage engineering for football turf
Drainage is the single biggest engineering challenge for outdoor turf in India. Monsoon cities receive 80-120 mm of rain in a single afternoon — without proper drainage, the turf becomes a swimming pool.
- Sub-base drainage: Compacted aggregate (40-80 mm) with built-in drainage capacity; or PCC slab with 1.5% gradient
- Subsurface pipe network: 100-150 mm dia perforated HDPE pipes laid in herringbone pattern at 5-7 m centres, 2% gradient toward perimeter
- Perimeter drains: Catch basins at corners, connected to municipal storm drain or on-site sump
- Geo-textile separator: Between aggregate sub-base and PCC or turf — prevents silt migration that clogs pipes
- Surface gradient: 0.5-1% from centre to perimeter; the turf itself drains downward to the sub-base
Properly engineered drainage clears standing water within 5-10 minutes of rain stopping. Cheap installs that skip subsurface drainage flood for hours.
Turf grooming & maintenance equipment
Synthetic turf isn’t maintenance-free — it’s low-maintenance only IF you have the right equipment and schedule:
- Drag-brush: Towed or hand-pushed brush that re-stands fibres and redistributes infill. Rs 25,000-65,000 (commercial unit). Use weekly.
- Power broom / groomer: Petrol or electric powered brush. Rs 1.2-3.5 lakh. Use monthly.
- Infill rake: Manually levels uneven infill in high-wear zones (goalmouths, centre circle). Rs 4,500-12,000. Use as needed.
- Magnet bar: Removes stray metal debris (coins, hairpins, bolts) before they damage fibres. Rs 8,000-22,000. Use monthly.
- Deep-clean machine: Specialised infill-cleaning unit; removes embedded organic matter. Rented from us at Rs 12,000-25,000/day or contracted annually.
Infill top-up & replacement
Infill compacts and migrates over time, especially in high-wear zones. Top-up schedule:
- Month 6: First inspection, minor top-up in goalmouths (~50 kg per court)
- Year 1: Full inspection, top-up in all high-wear zones (~150-250 kg per court). Rs 12,000-25,000.
- Year 2-3 onwards: Annual top-up Rs 8,000-18,000 per court.
- Year 5-6: Full infill replacement may be needed (vacuum extract old, reinstall fresh). Rs 1.2-2.5 lakh per court.
Common football turf mistakes to avoid
- Skipping subsurface drainage to save Rs 2-3 lakh — costs Rs 5-8 lakh in monsoon-related rework
- Buying turf below 40 mm to save cost — wears through in 2-3 years vs 8-10 for 50 mm
- Skipping infill — turf becomes hard, slippery; players slip and injure
- Letting infill compact — ball rolls unpredictably; players leave for better venues
- Under-spec lighting for night play — loses 50%+ of potential revenue
- No perimeter fencing — ball recovery time kills hourly utilisation
