Padel Turf Specification Deep Dive

Padel-specific artificial turf is the most under-specified component in low-quality padel installations — and the difference between a great court and an unplayable one. Good padel turf has:

Glass Engineering and Safety

Padel glass is the most spectacular element of the court and the most safety-critical. We use 10 mm or 12 mm tempered glass with the following safety features:

Tempered glass breaks into small granular pieces (not sharp shards) under catastrophic impact — extremely rare in padel because ball impact loads are well within design limits.

Padel Lighting Specification

Padel is fast — ball speeds up to 100 km/h with rapid changes of direction off the glass. Lighting needs to be uniform, glare-free, and high-CRI to support fast ball tracking. ChampCourts specifies the lighting layout and lux level for each court in the written quotation. Our standard 4 nos 300 W LED installation at 6 m corner-mount delivers 650 to 750 lux at court centre with 0.75 uniformity ratio and CRI 80+. Premium installations spec 6 nos 200 W LEDs at side-mount for 0.85 uniformity.
