What a ChampCourts volleyball court includes
A volleyball court is more than its surface. A complete ChampCourts build covers every layer from the ground up:
- Site survey. We assess the ground, drainage, orientation and available space - court plus free zone - before quoting.
- Base preparation. A properly levelled and cured concrete or asphalt base, which determines how the surface performs and lasts.
- The playing surface. Acrylic, cushioned PU or PP interlocking tiles, chosen for your indoor or outdoor use.
- Line-marking. Accurate FIVB lines - sidelines, end lines, centre line and the 3 m attack lines - in a contrasting colour.
- Net, posts and equipment. A regulation net at the correct height, sturdy posts, and antennae where required.
- Fencing. Perimeter fencing or netting to contain play and protect surroundings.
- Lighting. Glare-free LED floodlighting for evening and indoor play.
Surface options for volleyball
The surface is the single biggest decision, and the right one depends on whether the court is indoor or outdoor and how much you want to spend. The first question is always indoor versus outdoor: indoor courts favour a cushioned surface that absorbs the impact of jumping and diving, while outdoor courts need a finish that holds up to sun, rain and temperature swings. ChampCourts manufactures and installs three volleyball surfaces:
- Acrylic volleyball court (outdoor). A hard-wearing, weather-resistant acrylic system - the standard choice for outdoor courts.
- PU volleyball court (indoor). A cushioned polyurethane surface that gives grip and joint comfort for diving, indoor play.
- PP interlocking-tile volleyball court. A modular tile surface that installs quickly and suits rooftops or temporary courts.

Volleyball court dimensions and standards
An official volleyball court is 18 m long and 9 m wide (about 59 x 29.5 ft), split into two 9 x 9 m halves by the net, with an attack line 3 m from the centre line on each side. The governing body, the FIVB, also requires a free zone of at least 3 m around the court and sets the net height at 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women. For indoor competition the clear space above the court should be at least 7 m. Getting the layout right matters because under-sizing the free zone is one of the most common and costly mistakes - the playing area is fixed, but the run-off around it is where players actually chase the ball. Plan for the full footprint - court plus free zone - from the start. For the complete layout with a diagram, see our volleyball court dimensions guide.
What drives the cost of a volleyball court
Volleyball court cost is not a single number - it is the sum of a few line items. The surface you choose is the largest variable (PP tiles are the most affordable per square foot, acrylic sits in the middle, PU is the premium indoor option). The base matters next: building on a sound existing slab is far cheaper than laying a new one. Size follows the standard 18 x 9 m playing area, but adding the full free zone increases the surfaced area. Fencing and lighting are then priced to your site. Because of this, ChampCourts quotes every project line by line rather than as one round figure.
Why choose ChampCourts for your volleyball court
A volleyball court is a long-term asset, so it is worth judging any builder against clear criteria. On each, here is how ChampCourts measures up:
- In-house manufacture and installation. One accountable team from base to baseline, not a sub-contracted chain.
- The full surface range. Acrylic, PU and PP tiles, so the recommendation fits your court - not our stock.
- Built to standards. Correct FIVB dimensions, free zone and net heights on every court.
- A real project record. Courts delivered for societies, schools, corporates and academies.
- Transparent cost. Honest per-square-foot figures and a line-by-line quote.

Volleyball court construction - FAQs
How much does a volleyball court cost in India?
There is no single price - cost depends on the surface, the base, the size of the run-off area, and extras like fencing and lighting. As a 2026 per-square-foot guide for the playing surface: PP interlocking tiles from about Rs 70, acrylic around Rs 155, and PU around Rs 250. On a standard 18 x 9 m court plus the recommended free zone, budget separately for base preparation, net, posts, fencing and lights. Always ask for a line-by-line quote rather than a single lump sum.
What is the best surface for a volleyball court?
It depends on where the court is. For an indoor volleyball court, a cushioned PU surface gives the best grip and joint comfort for diving play. For an outdoor court, an acrylic surface is hard-wearing and weather-resistant, while PP interlocking tiles suit a quick modular build or a rooftop. ChampCourts recommends the surface to your site, sport and budget rather than pushing one product - compare them in our surface guide.
What are the official dimensions of a volleyball court?
A volleyball court is 18 m long and 9 m wide (about 59 x 29.5 ft), divided into two 9 x 9 m halves by the net. FIVB rules also require a free zone of at least 3 m on all sides, and the attack line is drawn 3 m from the centre line. The net height is 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women. Plan the overall footprint - court plus free zone - before you brief a builder.
How long does it take to build a volleyball court?
A typical volleyball court takes around two to four weeks from site survey to handover, depending on the surface and the condition of the base. PP interlocking tiles are the fastest to install once the base is ready; acrylic and PU systems need curing time between coats. A new concrete base, fencing and lighting add to the timeline, which is why ChampCourts starts with a site survey to give you an accurate schedule.
Is ChampCourts a good volleyball court builder?
ChampCourts is an India-based builder that manufactures and installs volleyball courts in-house, offers the full surface range (acrylic, PU and PP tiles), and builds to FIVB dimensions and standards. It quotes transparent per-square-foot costs, delivers pan-India from a Hyderabad base, and begins every project with a free site survey and an honest surface recommendation - the criteria a careful buyer should judge any builder on.
Does ChampCourts build both indoor and outdoor volleyball courts?
Yes. ChampCourts builds indoor volleyball courts (typically cushioned PU for grip and comfort) and outdoor courts (acrylic for weather resistance, or PP interlocking tiles for a modular build), along with the net, posts, line-marking, fencing and lighting around them. The right specification is matched to your location and use during the site survey.
