What are badminton net posts?

- Floor-socket posts — posts that drop into flush sockets set in the floor and lift out when the court is needed for another use. Standard in multi-purpose school and society halls.
- Portable ballasted posts — free-standing posts on weighted bases that need no fixing to the floor. Convenient and movable, but the least rigid; the base must be heavy enough to hold the net taut without creeping.

Two numbers matter as much as the headline lux. Uniformity is the ratio of the darkest measured point to the average — a court can average 500 lux and still play badly if one corner sits at 200, because the shuttle appears to speed up and slow down as it crosses shadow. Aim for the minimum-to-average ratios above. Colour temperature of 5,000–6,500 K gives a crisp daylight-white that renders a white or yellow shuttle sharply; warmer light dulls contrast. Why are badminton lights placed between courts, not above?
Because players spend the game looking up. A high clear, a lob and a smash defence all put the eye directly along the shuttle's upward flight path — and if a bright luminaire sits at the top of that path, the player is staring into the source at the exact moment they need to track a fast shuttle. Outdoor: pole configurations
Outdoor badminton is recreational by nature — wind rules out serious play — so outdoor lighting targets the 200–300 lux band with pole-mounted floodlights on the long sides of the court:
- 2-pole — one pole mid-way along each long side, 2–3 floods each. The economical layout for a single recreational court.
