Basketball Courts
Basketball court construction — FIBA & NBA-spec builds across India
ChampCourts designs and builds FIBA-compliant basketball courts for schools, colleges, corporate campuses, residential societies, and professional academies. We work across five surface systems — 8-layer acrylic, PP interlocking tiles, indoor PU polyurethane, Silicon PU hybrid, and tournament-grade hardwood maple — and deliver turnkey with civil, surface, structure, hoops, and lighting under one contract.
A regulation FIBA basketball court is 28 m x 15 m (91.86 ft x 49.21 ft) with a 2 m unobstructed run-off on all sides. NBA courts are slightly larger at 28.65 m x 15.24 m (94 x 50 ft). Three-point line: 6.75 m FIBA / 7.24 m NBA. Free-throw line: 5.8 m from baseline.
Basketball court surface comparison
| Surface | Use case | Price (Rs/sqft) | Indoor / Outdoor | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8-layer acrylic on PCC | Outdoor schools, societies | Rs 155 | Outdoor | FIBA Level 1 |
| PP interlocking tiles | Quick installs, terraces | Rs 70 | Both | FIBA Approved |
| Silicon PU | Premium outdoor / weather | Rs 180 - 250 | Both | FIBA Level 1 |
| PU polyurethane | Indoor academies, colleges | Rs 250 - 350 | Indoor only | FIBA Approved |
| Hardwood maple (sprung) | NBA-style indoor pro | Rs 500 - 1,200 | Indoor only | FIBA / NBA |
Our 8-layer acrylic basketball court is the workhorse spec for outdoor India — it survives 45°C summers and monsoon, costs Rs 65/sqft (coating only) over a Rs 90/sqft engineered M25 PCC base, and carries a 5-year written warranty. For premium indoor builds, we lay 22 mm hard maple on a sprung sub-floor with poured PU game-line topping.

FAQ
What is the cost of a basketball court in India?
Outdoor acrylic full court: Rs 12 - 14 lakh turnkey. Half-court: Rs 6 - 8 lakh. Indoor PU: Rs 18 - 25 lakh. Indoor hardwood: Rs 28 - 60 lakh depending on sub-floor system.
Acrylic vs PU — which surface is better for basketball?
Acrylic is the right answer for outdoor — UV-stable, weather-rated, repairable. PU is mandatory for serious indoor play because it delivers FIBA-compliant ball rebound and shock absorption. Use PU only indoors; outdoor sun degrades it.
What size is a half-court?
14 m x 15 m (45.93 x 49.21 ft) for FIBA half. We also build 3x3 FIBA courts at 15 m x 11 m which are the fastest-growing format in India.
How long does basketball court construction take?
Outdoor acrylic: 25-35 days from kickoff. Indoor PU on existing slab: 12-18 days. Hardwood: 30-45 days.
Do you build NBA-spec courts?
Yes — we install 22 mm hard maple on sprung sub-floor with FIBA / NBA-compliant 28.65 m x 15.24 m layout, painted game lines, and competition hoops. Used by academies and corporate venues.
What lighting do I need?
For recreational outdoor: 8 x 200W LED floods (~750 lux). For competition / streaming: 12-16 x 300W floods with glare control (1,500-2,000 lux).
Half-court and 3x3 — compact basketball formats
Not every site has space for a full court. We deliver three compact formats:
- Half-court (14 m x 15 m): Single hoop, half FIBA painted area, two three-point arcs. Most popular for societies and small schools. Rs 5-7 lakh turnkey outdoor acrylic.
- 3x3 FIBA court (15 m x 11 m): Official FIBA 3x3 dimensions with single hoop, shorter three-point arc, painted half-circle. Fastest-growing youth basketball format globally. Rs 4.5-6 lakh turnkey.
- Single-hoop training pad (10 m x 8 m): No game lines, just a hoop, backboard, and surface for shooting practice. Rs 2-3 lakh.
Backboard and rim selection
The backboard-rim combination is what players touch the most — investing here matters more than most clients realise.
- Tempered glass backboard (10 mm or 12 mm): FIBA standard for competition; rebounds true, doesn’t warp. Rs 35-65K per board.
- Fibreglass backboard: Durable outdoor option, slight rebound difference vs glass, lower cost. Rs 18-35K per board.
- Acrylic / polycarbonate: Entry-level outdoor; UV degrades over 4-6 years. Rs 8-18K per board.
- Breakaway rim (spring-loaded): FIBA / NBA standard — releases at heavy dunk force to prevent backboard damage and wrist injury. Mandatory for serious play. Rs 12-25K per rim.
- Fixed rim: School / recreational; cheaper but doesn’t survive aggressive dunks. Rs 3-8K per rim.
Outdoor court fencing & perimeter
A basketball court without fencing loses 30-40% of effective play time to chasing balls. Standard perimeter:
- 4 m chain-link fence with GI posts: The Indian standard. Rs 280-380/running ft installed.
- 6 m fence with overhead netting at ball-trap zones: Recommended for tight urban sites. Rs 400-600/running ft.
- Welded mesh panel fence: Premium aesthetic, longer lifespan. Rs 600-900/running ft.
- Tubular gate with self-closing hinge: Rs 8-18K per gate.
Lighting design — 750 to 2000 lux per use case
| Use case | Lux level | Fixture count (full court) | Indicative cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recreational / school | 500 lux | 6 x 200W LED | Rs 1.1-1.5 lakh |
| Club training | 750 lux | 8 x 200W LED | Rs 1.5-2.0 lakh |
| Competition | 1,500 lux | 12 x 300W LED | Rs 3.5-5.0 lakh |
| Broadcast / streaming | 2,000 lux + camera POV | 16 x 400W LED + control gear | Rs 7-12 lakh |
Maintenance schedule for basketball courts
- Daily/weekly: sweep dust, leaves, debris (essential — small particles act like sandpaper under shoes)
- Quarterly: jet-wash acrylic, inspect line paint for chipping
- Annual: tighten hoop bolts, inspect breakaway rim spring tension, check fence integrity
- Year 2-3: line paint touch-up Rs 12-25K
- Year 4-5: top-seal re-coat Rs 1.2-1.8 lakh full court
- Year 8-10: full 5-layer refresh Rs 3.5-5 lakh full court
Site preparation — what we check before quoting
- Sub-soil bearing capacity: Minimum 100 kN/m² for the PCC slab. Soft sites need geo-textile + compacted aggregate.
- Drainage path: 2% gradient to a defined drainage edge or sump; no flat sites.
- Access for concrete trucks: Required for M25 PCC pour; difficult sites switch to bagged mix at 20-30% premium.
- Sun orientation: Ideal long-axis is north-south to minimise glare; east-west is workable with proper sun-shade.
- Power availability: 3-phase 15 kW for full court lighting; verify with site electrician.
- Existing tree canopy: Leaves block sun (good for summer) but drop debris (bad for surface). Plan accordingly.
Case study — Hyderabad school 3-court basketball complex
A Hyderabad CBSE school commissioned us in March 2026 for a 3-court complex: 1 FIBA full + 2 half-courts side-by-side, all acrylic outdoor with 4 m chain-link fencing and LED lighting. Constraints: site was previously a kabaddi mud court with 800 mm of soft fill needing removal.
- Civil: 65-day program — soil excavation, compacted aggregate sub-base, M25 PCC slab with 2% gradient, expansion joints every 4.5 m
- Surface: 8-layer acrylic across all 3 courts, royal blue + grey colour scheme matching school identity
- Lighting: 22 x 200W LED floods, 750 lux uniform across all courts
- Hoops: 6 x FIBA-spec breakaway rims on tempered glass backboards, in-ground adjustable
- Total cost: Rs 32.5 lakh turnkey across all 3 courts including fencing
- Outcome: Court inaugurated by district sports authority; school added basketball to inter-school competition roster
Basketball court drainage & weatherproofing
Outdoor basketball courts in India must clear monsoon rain within minutes of stopping. Our standard drainage spec:
- Surface gradient: 2% slope from centre to the lower edge of the court
- Perimeter drain channel: 200 mm wide concrete trench at the low edge, sloped to a sump or storm drain
- Expansion joints: Every 4.5 m in PCC base, sealed with elastic polymer joint filler
- Top-seal water-shedding: Hydrophobic additive in the final acrylic coat causes water to bead and run off rather than pool
- Drainage warranty: No standing water within 10 minutes of rain stopping, confirmed on handover
Court customisation — branding, logos, special markings
- Centre-circle logo: School crest, corporate logo, federation emblem painted at centre. Rs 18,000-65,000.
- End-line wordmark: Brand name or school name painted under each basket. Rs 12,000-25,000.
- 3-point arc accent: Contrasting colour or thicker line for visual emphasis.
- Custom court colour combinations: Two-tone court / run-off matching brand identity.
- Sponsor decals: Vinyl decals (removable) for tournament sponsorship. Rs 8,000-22,000 per set.
Best basketball court colour schemes
- NBA navy + grey: Premium, broadcast-friendly, hides scuff marks well
- FIBA blue + light blue: Classic international tournament look
- School colours (custom): Match institutional branding; adds school pride; great for inter-school visibility
- Corporate tones (charcoal + accent): Premium look matching campus architecture
- High-contrast red + black: Standout for streetball / 3x3 dedicated courts
